Hello all,
I was wondering why no comments are left on the blog. I don’t think there are that many readers and visitors but zero comment (not even spam !) was surprising. Until I tried to make a test comment… Commenting required to be WordPress connected… uh. In a word, if you’re not a wordpress user, [...]

The Gordon Gecko is now finished. Not yet signed because the paint is still fresh. But finished. It finally took me a week and a half, that is something like 20 hours or so. I was on vacation during last week so I found (plenty of) time to paint.
The finished painting will be titled after [...]

Hell, yes, I am pretty much done with him. Finished the face, the hand, the shirt collar and sleeve, added some hair, made the cigar… Not time to have a cigar myself yet but pretty soon. I now have to make some neat background because under real light differences of tone in the background can [...]

Here is the work in progress so far.
The face is almost finished even if I have a few details to correct here and there. Still have a few details to see around the mouth, paint hair and work on smooth shades. Then I’ll start going down the hand… Anyway the main job is done and [...]

The biggest difficulty in painting is most certainly finding the right color again some time later after the first painting session. When you mix something like 5 or 6 different colors, you can’t tell for sure what exact amount of each colour you primarily miwed together. So you lose a big deal of time searching [...]

I Did not paint for 2 days as I had other important family stuff scheduled. I am back to the painting board today and focusing on Gordon Gecko’s eyes which will be the center part of the painting. In a portrait, people stare at the character’s look. The quality of the final painting will fully [...]

Here we go for the flesh painting…
First was to apply a lavish of diluted orange paint.
Then I started painting a first layer which will be a good basis for upcoming work (that is really detailing the painting). The main difficulty will be keeping a uniform color of flesh between hand and face (especially if not [...]

Michael Douglas’ face has two specificities. His expression comes of course from his eyes. But He also has a specific mouth. The rendering of the paiting will strongly depend on the success of rendering his slightly falling lip and the intense look of Greed.
Given the dark composition everything will be a question of [...]

One of my favorite movies (besides of The Lord of the Rings and Conan) is Wall Street. Some of you already know my other passion is Trading. Financial markets. Market wizardry involving millions of dollars
Michael Douglas’ character, Gordon Gecko is a very inspirational character with many famous movie quotes such as :
“Greed [...]

Two final steps :
1. Varnishing.
2. Framing.
Forgot to buy varnish yesterday but found a nice wooden frame. I found the way to double or triple the value of the painting : the wooden frame was 55 euros ($80)
Here is a picture of what it should look like with the frame :
